With the cold weather approaching, it is time to switch your heat pump or air conditioning unit from cooling to heating.
It seems simple to grab the remote and switch the function over. But what you are actually doing is reversing the way that your system operates.
If your system is not serviced regularly, then a couple of things can happen. The first is that you could be spreading a collection of germs into your home or office. And secondly, this reverse in functions can dislodge a buildup of dust and particles within your system, causing potential operating issues.
That is part of the reason why we recommend 6-monthly servicing. You can combat the pressures of reversing the functions, improve the health and wellness of your environment, and also prolong the life of your machine.
Let’s look into these points in greater detail.
Reversing The Functions
Most people want to make the most of their heat pumps or air conditioning units. So, often they will be used for cooling in summer and heating in winter.
But did you know that the system will use a different process to cool the air than it will to heat it? Effectively, the system works in reverse when switching between the cooling and heating functions.
What that means is during winter, air is pulled into the system and heated by the coils. When the system draws in air, it also draws in everything else present in the environment – dust, particles, fluff, and bacteria. This can build up on the coils and within the inner workings of the system.
But in summer, the air is cooled inside the system. Water and moisture accumulate around the coils, washing the build up into the drains. Sometimes this can cause a blockage and a fault, meaning you have to call a technician out to fix it.
Servicing your heat pump every six months will coincide with the change of seasons. It will keep your system clean and fresh, meaning that bacteria is not dispersed into the air and there is no fluff build up to cause issues.
Health And Wellness
As we just mentioned, your heat pump or air conditioning system does not just draw in external air. There is a lot more that comes along with that oxygen!
These systems operate with a circulatory function. Meaning, the air that is pushed out of the system has been drawn in from the same environment. This is the same air that everyone inside the dwelling is breathing. So, if you have someone with an illness, their pathogens are released into the air. There is a chance that those pathogens are drawn into the system and deposited on the plates or in the filters. If they have the chance to build up then they can be expelled out at any time, spreading unwanted germs.
Regularly cleaning your heating and cooling systems will prevent pathogens, germs and bacteria building up inside. That means cleaner, healthier interior spaces!
Extend The Life Term Of Your Machine
Would you continue to drive your car for years without servicing it?
No, we didn’t think so. You regularly want to check that everything is working as it should to prevent costly issues occurring down the track and to protect your safety.
Your heat pump or air conditioning units are no different. They need to be serviced so that they continue to operate at an optimum level. Electrical checks must be done to ensure it is running safely. You will need protections added to the outdoor components that stop bugs entering the system and damaging the circuit boards.
Also, by cleaning the coils, you are reducing the force needed to push the air through the unit to keep it operating. This not only creates less wear on the unit and prolongs its life, but it also improves its efficiency which reduces your energy costs. In fact, by servicing your unit every six months, you will more than cover the cost of the services with your energy savings.
