It’s hard to believe that it has been ten years since we developed an Excel-based calculator to determine our own company’s carbon footprint and decided to put it on our website for others to use. Since then there have been a few changes to its look and feel but its purpose has never wavered. ACE was back then, and still is, a tool designed to introduce individuals and businesses to the important world of carbon footprinting.

Since first putting ACE on our website in 2008 there have been over 1,500 registered downloads. As well as residing on our website it can now be found on the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) website. EKOS provides it as well.

As far as we know it is the longest serving, fully maintained and updated free carbon calculator available to New Zealanders. And the feedback we have received over the years has made the effort worth it.

Where the tool does not fully meet the needs of a user, we will customise it. Examples of organisations using a tailored carbon calculator based on ACE include Tourism Holdings Limited, Comvita, University of Waikato and AgResearch.

And of course, we don’t leave ACE users to fend for themselves when it comes to the sometimes confusing world of carbon accounting and management. Where needed we provide support services that range from setting the scope of the measurement and defining the boundaries to interpreting the measurement and developing a carbon reduction and management plan.
